Meet Scarlette: The Daily Driven F-450

Poor Boys Diesel • October 1, 2024

Welcome to the world of Scarlette, a striking 2022 Rapid Red Super Duty that has transformed the daily driving experience for Tim Moore, the owner of Poor Boys Diesel. Originally purchased as an upgrade to his 2017 Ford F-350, Scarlette has quickly become a flagship vehicle for PBD, showcasing how a heavy-duty truck can deliver both comfort and utility.

Tim has put Scarlette to work, often seen hauling race trailers or lending a helping hand to customers in need. Whether navigating through tight corners or towing an 18,500lb fifth-wheel camper trailer, this truck handles it all with ease, making it a true workhorse.

Suspension: Comfort Meets Capability

Suspension: Comfort Meets Capability

Beneath Scarlette's stunning exterior lies a highly engineered suspension system. Equipped with the full F-450 E-Venture Level Height Carli Suspension System, this truck offers the perfect blend of ride quality and functionality. Key components include:
  • Dual King Steering Stabilizers
  • Carli Radius Arms
  • Carli Torsion Front Sway Bar
  • Full Deaver Level Height Leafs
  • One Up Off-Road Traction Bars
  • LogIQ Full Travel Air Bag System with remote control
The Carli E-Venture System features three presets—Mountain, Street, and Desert—allowing Tim to customize his driving experience on the fly as well as make custom adjustments to the front and rear firmness within each mode. Thanks to advanced technology that interprets various driving parameters, Scarlette remains stable and planted, ensuring a smooth ride even when towing.

Power to Tackle Any Challenge

Power to Tackle Any Challenge

To enhance Scarlette’s performance, Tim tackled one of the most notorious issues in diesel engines: the CP4 pump. He traded his factory time bomb out with a S&S Motorsport DCR pump conversion, which, combined with stock injectors and a No Limit 64mm drop-in charger, produces an impressive 650-wheel horsepower. While there’s a slight trade-off in bottom-end spool, the mid-range and top-end power make it well worth it. The temperature management is also exceptional, with maximum EGTs reaching just 1200 degrees, keeping things safe during heavy towing.

Transmission That Keeps Cool

Transmission That Keeps Cool

Scarlette’s transmission has been upgraded to a Randy’s Transmissions Godzilla 10R140, rated for 750hp. This upgrade significantly lowers operating temperatures, maintaining a cool 215-220 degrees compared to the factory’s 240 degrees. With factory 4.30 gearing, the cruising RPM remains at a manageable 2200, even while rolling on 37” tires.

With a capacity of 68 gallons, Scarlette’s S&B factory replacement fuel tank ensures ample fuel for long journeys. An auxiliary 72-gallon bed-mounted tank/toolbox combo from The Fuel Box further extends its range, making it perfect for extended trips across Arizona and beyond.

Scarlette is more than just a truck; it's a testament to what’s possible when comfort meets capability. Tim Moore’s dedication to refining this Super Duty exemplifies the spirit of adventure and utility. Whether you're towing heavy loads or navigating rough terrain, Scarlette stands ready to prove that a heavy-duty truck can be a daily driver without compromise. Keep an eye out for this beauty on the road—you won't want to miss it!
